Where to stay for the Missouri caves
The caves are not in one place. Marvel Cave, Lost Canyon Cave and Talking Rocks cluster around Branson. Fantastic Caverns, Crystal Cave and Smallin Civil War Cave are in the Springfield and Ozark area. Meramec Caverns and Onondaga lie west of St. Louis, Bridal Cave and Ha Ha Tonka near Camdenton at the Lake of the Ozarks, and Mark Twain Cave in Hannibal. Pick the base that matches the caves you want, not the other way round.
For most first trips, Branson hotels are the practical choice. West 76 Country Boulevard is a corridor with hotels, restaurants, shows and attractions in one place. This page compares areas, not individual hotels, so check current rates and availability for your dates on a booking platform. If you also want guided visits, compare Missouri cave tours before you choose a base.

Bases compared
Which town suits which caves.
| Base | Caves nearby | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Branson, West 76 Country Boulevard | Marvel Cave, Lost Canyon Cave | Hotels, shows and food in one corridor |
| Branson West | Talking Rocks (423 Fairy Cave Lane) | A base for Talking Rocks; this address is not in downtown Branson |
| Springfield and Ozark | Fantastic Caverns, Crystal Cave, Smallin Civil War Cave | Several cave visits in one area |
| Stanton and Sullivan | Meramec Caverns | Route 66 stop; two names for the same area |
| Camdenton | Bridal Cave, Ha Ha Tonka | Lake of the Ozarks |
| Eldon | Stark Caverns | A cave visit on the way around the lake |
| Versailles and Gravois Mills | Jacob's Cave (closed for renovation) | Call the cave before you plan around it |
| Leasburg | Onondaga Cave State Park, Cathedral Cave | Camping at the park |
| Hannibal | Mark Twain Cave, Cameron Cave | Caves plus the old town on the Mississippi |
For most visitors Branson is the practical single base for a first trip, because it puts three caves and the main attractions in one area. Add a second base at the Lake of the Ozarks or near Springfield if you plan a longer loop through the state.

Branson hotels and the 76 corridor
The base for Marvel Cave, Lost Canyon Cave and Talking Rocks.
West 76 Country Boulevard
This is the strip with hotels, restaurants, shows and attractions. It suits a trip that mixes caves with entertainment. Do not assume you can walk from your hotel to a cave, since distances depend on the property.
Construction on the strip
A construction phase on West 76 Country Boulevard starts at the end of October 2026 and is planned to last 20 months. Expect lane closures and traffic shifts. No full road closures are planned, and access to businesses stays open. Allow extra time on tour days.
The downtown trolley
The Sparky trolley is a free loop around downtown Branson with 12 stops. A loop takes 20 to 30 minutes, and Main Street to the Landing takes about 5 to 10 minutes. It runs on weekends only in January and February, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and daily from March to December, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. It does not run on Thanksgiving, Christmas or in dangerous weather. There is a wheelchair lift. The trolley serves downtown, not the caves.
Branson West
Talking Rocks is at 423 Fairy Cave Lane in Branson West, not in downtown Branson. If that cave is your main stop, Branson West is a sound base.

Onondaga Cave State Park at 7556 Highway H in Leasburg has camping all year. Water and showers and the reservation season run from April 1 to October 31. All sites can be reserved, and free sites may be available on arrival. You can book up to 12 months ahead.
Prices per night for 2026 include tax:
- Basic: $15 from April to October, $14 from November to March
- Electric/Water: $32 or $26, depending on season
- Family Electric/Water: $57 or $47, depending on season
Seniors aged 65 and older, people with disabilities and military and veterans get $2 off per night with proof. Water depends on the weather. The reservation fee is extra. See Onondaga Cave State Park for tours and prices.
Springfield, Stanton and the Lake of the Ozarks
Springfield and Ozark work as a base for Fantastic Caverns, Crystal Cave and Smallin Civil War Cave. Meramec Caverns calls its area Stanton, while its GPS address says Sullivan. Search for hotels in both towns, because they are two search areas for one cave. Meramec Caverns is about 60 miles west of St. Louis on Interstate 44 at exit 230.
At the Lake of the Ozarks, Camdenton fits Bridal Cave and Ha Ha Tonka, Eldon fits Stark Caverns and Versailles and Gravois Mills fit Jacob's Cave. Do not expect everything to be next to everything else, and allow time to drive around the lake. In Hannibal, plan the Mark Twain Cave visit and the old town as separate parts of the day.

Where to stay: frequently asked questions
Where should you stay for Missouri caves?
For a first trip, Branson is the practical base, with Marvel Cave, Lost Canyon Cave and Talking Rocks in the area. For other caves, choose the town next to them, such as Camdenton for Bridal Cave or Springfield for Fantastic Caverns.
Which Branson hotels do you recommend?
This page compares areas, not single hotels. Hotel prices and availability change, so check current rates for your dates.
Can you walk from Branson hotels to the caves?
Do not assume so. West 76 Country Boulevard is a hotel and attraction corridor, and the distance to a cave depends on the hotel and the cave. Check the map for your property.
Does the Branson trolley go to the caves?
No. The free Sparky trolley serves a downtown loop with 12 stops. It does not connect to the caves.
Can you camp near a Missouri cave?
Yes. Onondaga Cave State Park has camping all year, from $15 for a basic site per night from April to October in 2026, tax included.
Is this the official Branson or Missouri tourism site?
No. MissouriCaves.org is an independent travel guide. It is not connected to the City of Branson, Missouri State Parks, Visit Missouri, any hotel or any tour operator.
